Tap any chip to adjust that setting directly — changes are sent to the camera instantly.



Type of connection chip (Options → Display)

A small read-only label in the left status box, next to the battery, telling you HOW the app is talking to the camera right now — nothing more. It shows exactly one of four values: DC = direct Wi-Fi to the camera's own hotspot · AP = both devices on the same router / phone hotspot (Access Point mode) · USB-C = wired PTP over the cable · — = no camera link (Demo / Phone camera). It is derived from the live transport, so it can never disagree with the connection header. It does NOT show signal strength: phones expose no Wi-Fi level to apps, so any bars would be a guess — judge the link by the live FPS readout instead.

While Auto ISO is active, a small ▲ or ▼ appears next to the AUTO tag on the ISO chip for a moment whenever the camera raises or lowers the metered ISO. In an auto-shutter program (P, A, AUTO) the Shutter chip gets the same hint: ▲ when the body lengthens the exposure time (slower shutter / wider angle), ▼ when it shortens it — a glanceable sign that the exposure is still moving.

Chips that the body reports read-only in the current mode are dimmed with a padlock; tapping one flashes the LOCK button instead of opening a picker. Locks are read from the camera itself, never guessed from the exposure program, so they follow the body on any Z-series model. The shutter chip shows Nikon's High-Frequency Flicker Reduction format (denominator with one decimal, e.g. 512.0) whenever the camera is fine-tuning, and the plain 1/500 otherwise. The REC badge counts from the camera's own recording clock.

Tap anywhere on the live feed to move the AF point (Tap-AF). Two-finger tap re-centres the AF point exactly like the body's OK button — the point moves back to the middle without focusing and the frame stays hidden until you move it again. Triple-tap the feed to enter Battery-Saver mode (screen goes black while everything keeps running — tap the pulsing dot to exit). In Options → Battery saver you can additionally enable "Pause live view while in battery saver": the stream itself stops while the screen is black, so the battery drains far slower and the hardware cools down, and the feed resumes instantly on exit. An active recording is never interrupted — if the camera is rolling, the stream keeps running.

Camera name: the first chip in the top banner shows the connected body's name. Rename it in Options → System → Camera name — while a body is connected the name is stored for THAT physical camera (it follows it across slots, sessions and presets, handy in Multi View); leave the field empty to use the name read from the body. The chip can be hidden like any other banner chip in Options.

Need the feed turned? The SETTINGS tab includes a Rotate Feed toggle that rotates the live view 90° for rigs mounted sideways — the HUD and controls stay upright.

Feed latency tip: in the automatic exposure programs (AUTO / P / S / A) the camera runs continuous metering while generating live view, which adds a little delay inside the body itself — its own screen shows the same lag. For the lowest-latency feed, shoot in M or a U1-U4 user mode with exposure locked.

Exposure program chip: shows the body's program (P / S / A / M / AUTO) as the body reports it — the same value its own mode menu highlights. In a user slot it reads e.g. "U1·M" — the slot plus the program stored in it. The app learns each slot's program whenever the body sits in it, so the pickers (HUD and Body Control, photo and video) label every slot you have used at least once. Hold a U row in either picker to give the slot a name of your own (e.g. "Cinematic") — the body does not expose its slot names, so the name is stored on this device. In a user slot the chip and the Body Control tile show the slot's stored program as the value ("M") with the slot beside it in small type — "U1" when unnamed; once named, the slot badge sits on top and the first 4 letters of your name plus a dot below it ("Cine."), like the body's own display; the picker shows the full name. Photo and video keep separate U-slot programs and names, as on the body. A program you pick in the app shows at once in both the chip and the picker and is kept until the body confirms it (a change made on the body itself wins immediately).

Padlock badges: any top chip or bottom tool the body currently refuses to change shows a small padlock and is dimmed. Tapping it explains the lock instead of opening the menu.

 Contents Connecting to your cameraAF frames, subjects & eyes 

 The Monitor screen [IMAGE / VIDEO: The Monitor screen — screenshot / clip] The top banner shows live camera telemetry: timecode, aperture, shutter, ISO, exposure compensation, white balance, recording format and card/battery status.
